When the gut flora is compromised, a person’s sensory perceptions are compromised, both in children and adults. Gut health with compromised gut flora is called gut dysbiosis. In the modern lifestyle, almost all of us have some level of gut dysbiosis, which negatively affects our lives, especially human maturity, integrity, resilience, determination, emotional intelligence and so on.
Gut dysbiosis causes health conditions called GAPS, gut and physiology syndrome, and gut and psychology syndrome. Autism is a GAPS. GAPS children’s parents are GAPS. When you help your child with Autism or any GAPS, you should be aware of how you approach and communicate with the child because your sensory perceptions are most likely compromised also.
Some examples
In the following scenarios, I provided hands-on therapy with GAPS Diet support to integrate reflexes and reorganize sensory-motor skill functions.
Scenario 1.
Both Thomas and his mother looked at the same object. But Thomas’s vision was compromised. So, he saw everything much closer than reality. This visual perception was usual for him. But the rest of us do not understand it.
Scenario 2.
Alice’s sense of hearing was compromised, and she was susceptible to sounds. So, Alice would hear a louder voice when her mother called her name. Her mother could see that Alice was scared and her body tensed up for a moment, then Alice began to cry as she relaxed. Her mother was puzzled because she told me she would never raise her voice to her daughter.
Scenario 3.
James’s sense of smell was compromised. For him, animal-based food (chicken, pork, beef) smelled terrible. He complained when his mother cooked those foods.
Scenario 4.
Steven’s eye movement was not coordinated with his head movement. He had thick glasses and could still not read well. The problem was not his eyes; rather, his problem was coordinating the movement of his eyes and head. His eyes would go right when his head went left.
Scenario 5.
Anderson’s Testimonial involved compromised cognitive integration. His experience highlighted the importance of integrating sensory nerve function with thought processes.
Scenario 6.
Many GAPS clients had a compromised sense of taste. They tended to eat mostly carbohydrates, such as pizza, pasta, bread, rice, ice cream, and other sweets, fast foods, and junk foods. Those foods were toxic to their compromised health and damaged gut flora.
Note: While healthy foods are healing their gut, withdrawal and die-off reactions may occur. People may feel uncomfortable, which discourages them from eating proper healing foods. Therefore, for all GAPS Diet Protocols, you may need to start with smaller portions and then slowly increase the portions and variety of foods.
For example, start with one teaspoon of the GAPS Meat Stock per day and slowly increase it more often. Once the GAPS Meat stock is well tolerated, start adding 1 teaspoon of pasture-raised chicken egg yolk.
